Van Wilt and his colleagues compared the nutritional content of 18 plant-based meats and 18 grass-fed cattle using a method called metabolism. And while the dietary labels on the reviewed samples looked the same, there were some differences in dietary content when evaluating the ingredients that were not listed.
Twenty-two metabolites have been found in meat, including DHA, omega-3 fatty acids, niacinamide (vitamin B3), and certain antimicrobials. In addition, 51 metabolites have been found in beef, compared to plant-based meat alternatives.
On the other hand, only 31 metabolites are found in plant-based meat alternatives, including vitamin C and certain antioxidants.
